About us

“New Hope was born as dreams are born; New Hope grows as dreams grow.  Knowing our history is to rescue our institutional identity. A look back to strongly continue building the future.”

New Hope was founded in 1993 due to an educator’s dream of satisfying the need for an academic and humanistic high quality bilingual education in Heredia

The institution started working with prekinder, kinder, preparatory, first, and second grade from the basic general Education System in a building located downtown San Juan of Santa Barbara in Heredia with a population of 105 students and 17 teachers.

In September 1995, two years after opening, there were 172 new students registered for 1996 school year, getting a population at that moment of 381 students, which made the administration get a 13,000 m2 property and start building the first six classrooms, offices, sports facilities, and others. This way, it was possible to inaugurate those classrooms in February 1996 in the same property it is located now,

High school is founded in 1997 with a population of 32 students and the first graduation was in 2001 with a 100% promotion.

In 1998, 14 classrooms more are built and all preschool and elementary students are placed in the new rooms endorsed by C.E.N.I.F.E. and the corresponding Ministry of Education permits in order to offer a comprehensive quality service to the students.

From 1991 to 2001, the auditorium, cafeteria, parking area, basketball and volleyball courts were completed.  On December 10, 2001,  21,000 m2  of land were bought in order to offer more space to develop sports and recreational areas. In 2003 and 2004, the pool, science labs, computer labs, and playground areas were constructed. In July of 2005, 12,000 m2   were bought for a total of 56,000m2  of land.

The school anthem, its lyrics and music, was composed by the first music teacher, Norita Ovares and the high school anthem was composed by the first academic director, Mr. Francisco Martinez.  The shield was made by Cynthia Ramos with the guidance and ideas from students, teachers and administrative personnel.  The first hand-embroidered banner was made by some nuns and it was used for the first time at the preparatory graduation in 1996.

The school constant growth has been due to the vision of its founder Jeannette Cortes Garcia, to the effort and responsibility of its students, to the high academic level and hard work of its teachers and administrative personnel, but mainly to the trust and support of parents who have permitted New Hope be the learning place to educate Costa Rican future generations.
